Cyber bullying refers to a child or adolescent’s behavior of continuing to hurt, threaten, bother, and humiliate another child or adolescent in the form of words or images on the internet.

Effects

1. The victim shows symptoms such as anxiety and is afraid to interact with people or grades suffer.
2. The bully’s behavior may constitute a criminal offense. This affects social interactions and makes “the culture of cyber bullying” normal.
3. Spectators may feel insecure and anxious and hurt the victim a second time.
Tips on confronting cyber bullying

1. Stay calm, do not fight back, do not try to be brave
2. Change your online name, ask help from the website administrator, and temporarily leave
3. Increase privacy settings and block the relevant online friends
4. Keep evidence for follow up
5. Ask teachers and social workers for their suggestions and help

When confronted with cyber-bullying, most youths would feel helpless. If it was inadequately handled, inappropriately their emotion, study and social life would be affected. In worst case, it may deteriorate to mental health problems.
We had initiated a survey from December 2010 to January 2011 and gathered the most effective “Top 10 self-protecting methods confronting cyber-bullying” as recognized by the youths.
